Apple's latest updates bring new features to your iPhone and Apple Photos, but which ones are actually worth using? We're kicking off Season Two by exploring photo ratings, keywords, captions, and Shared Albums to help you understand what's new and decide what works best for your photo collection.

What's New in Apple Photos? iPhone Updates & Features You Should Know About

We're BACK for Season Two!

And what better way to kick things off than talking about something Amanda gets particularly excited about every September—Apple's latest updates!

If you've recently updated your iPhone or Mac and noticed a few things look different, you're not alone.

In this episode, we're chatting about some of the latest Apple Photos features, what they actually do, and whether they're worth adding to your photo-organizing routine.

Because just because Apple introduces a new feature doesn't mean you need to use it!

In This Episode

📱 Understanding Apple Updates

What's the difference between iOS and macOS? We chat about Apple's annual updates, how to check which version you're using, and why some people prefer to wait before installing a major update.

⭐ Five-Star Photo Ratings

Apple's photo rating system sparks a surprisingly lively conversation! We explore how star ratings could help organize photos, how they compare with favourites, and whether most everyday iPhone users actually need them.

🔎 Keywords in Apple Photos

One of Amanda's favourite topics! We discuss how keywords can help you find photos more easily, why they're different from captions, and how they might fit into your regular photo-organizing routine.

✏️ Captions vs. Keywords

Not sure which one to use? We explain how captions can preserve the stories behind your photos while keywords can help you categorize and find them.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Shared Albums and Photo Quality

We discuss changes to Shared Albums, why photo resolution matters when printing, and an important reminder about photos that have been shared with you versus photos saved in your own library.

💡 Exploring Apple's New Features

You don't need to master every update! We share a simple way to explore what's new and decide which features are worth your time.

Today's Tiny Task: Explore What's New!

Give yourself 5–10 minutes to get familiar with your iPhone.

  1. Open Settings → General → Software Update to check your current version.

  2. Search for the Tips app on your iPhone.

  3. Explore one feature you haven't used before.

  4. Decide whether it's something you actually want to incorporate into your routine.

That's it!

No need to change your entire organizing system. Just get a little more comfortable with the technology you already own.
