How did Memory Momentum come to exist?? Well, FIRST, it actually exists because Kristi and Amanda (we – I know you know it’s us writing), were both born on Beaver St. Newcastle, Ontario and became besties at a very young age circa early 80s. Exact dates not important here, but at least now it’s obvious we also come packaged with a lightning-round fast recall of pop-culture trivia, appreciation for movie quotes, and busting into song anytime someone works a quote into regular conversation, which is just added value when you work with us (don’t worry, you can request to turn this added-value feature off in your sessions). But now you know you’re also safe from any judgement of the high-hair, puffy shoulder-pad, heavily-floraled photos from the 80s decade in your collection. You’re our people. As I was saying, WHY Memory Momentum exists: Because we had these same challenges, but in 2013 at a 2013 tech level…(just to be clear, we level up as the tech levels up…we are sooooo 2025 now…). Back in the 2013 age, we had young babies, rapidly changing computer technology and apps - wait, we didn’t even know what an app was then; and our first iPhones (8GB???!!) ….NOOOOOOO cloud storage or external hard drive/flash/usb/significant computer storage. It was the Jurassic Park age of technology – an age of storage foraging, (storaging??), digital files scattered mercilessly everywhere -we were just tech toddlers learning to walk after the floppy disk! It was a time of all too well-known digital file corruption and lost photos on dinosaur computers, living off 2GB Flash Drive scraps, with sd cards long abandoned in out-dated cameras only to be dusted off and re-discovered years later…and don’t even get me started on VHS, DVDs and photos on disk! (disc?!) We knew we were not the only struggling family photographers and memory-keepers out there roaming the land, uncertain in this new digital world. So, Kristi and I united, despite being provinces apart. We thought, why not figure out the solutions and make a biz out of it because we LOVE memory-keeping and helping families uncover the stories they didn’t know they were missing and now absolutely cherish. …To help reduce the clutter so the stories and memories can surface from the voice of the memory-keeper and be passed down (as they once were in days of yore!!), connecting you/him/her/all to the next generation, showing them, ‘this is who I was, this is how I experienced our world and family, and this is how important you were in our story.’ Regardless of the advancements of our Apple Photos app (thank you Apple!), there is always still so much to learn and know beyond the ever-evolving and impressive search function and Featured photos and ‘Memories’ slideshows that the app auto-generates for you based on your photography and interactions with the app. These are fun and handy features, BUT they are not the ideal MEMORY-KEEPING SOLUTION. If you want good maintenance habits to keep your Apple Photos Library (camera roll) clutter free, then you want to hang with us. (Just because Apple can HIDE the clutter in certain views, doesn’t mean you should KEEP the clutter). If you dream of being a tidy minimalist in your memory-keeping world (hello efficiency-lovers, goodbye ‘just-in-casers’), then you want us in your village. We love all things memory-keeping, tech-learning, family archiving, storytelling…AND workflow efficiencies (if you don’t know what this means, you just wait; welcome to your new love language)!
